YEREVAN. – Activists from the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) are staging a demonstration Wednesday in front of the Court of Cassation.

The protest is in defense of ANC activist Tigran Arakelyan, the Armenian News-NEWS.am reporter informs (PHOTOS).

ANC bloc National Assembly Faction leader, ANC Party Vice-Chairman Levon Zurabyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am that they have no expectations from the court hearing, and noted that they will continue their struggle no matter what.

To note, a general jurisdiction court had sentenced ANC activists Tigran Arakelyan, Artak Karapetyan, Sargis Gevorgyan, and Davit Kiramijyan to six, three, and two years, respectively, as a result of an incident that had occurred on August 9, 2011, in capital city Yerevan. The Criminal Court of Appeals had upheld this ruling, and therefore the activists’ attorneys had submitted to the Court of Cassation their objections to this verdict.

The court started examining these objections on Wednesday.
