YEREVAN. – The members of the “We will not Pay 150 Drams” initiative have brought a cake to hand over it to Mayor Taron Margaryan.
The cake was in shape of a fifty-dram coin with “Enjoy and be full” inscription on it. The activists gathered near the municipality building, but no one went down to take the cake. Meanwhile, deputy police chief of Yerevan Valery Osipyan does not allow activists to hand over the cake by themselves.
The activists are singing and chanting slogans, calling the drivers and passers-by to join their action.
The capital city Yerevan Municipality decision to increase the public transport fares in the city has brought about outbursts, several groups are formed in the social networks, and the initiatives are staging protests and distributing pamphlets against this decision. In addition, the “Free Car” initiative is launched, along the lines of which Armenia’s numerous well-known personalities, MPs, and ordinary residents provide—with their own vehicles—free transportation to the people.
