YEREVAN. – Now, the Yerevan Zoo occupies the double of its previous space, and together with separate cages for several animals.
The zoo, where construction was carried out since 2013, officially reopened on Monday, June 1, the International Day for Protection of Children (PHOTOS).
President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan attended the event, together with his two daughters and grandchildren, as well Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan.
“No change was made in the [zoological] garden since its founding [in 1940]. [But] today, the garden is experiencing a rebirth.
“The area of the garden has become 16 hectares, from 7 hectares. Separate cages are built [for numerous animals],” Yerevan Zoo Director Ruben Khachatryan told reporters.
He added that the zoo meets international standards.
