YEREVAN. - The information on former Karabakh defense minister Samvl Babayan is to some extent not trustworthy.

Former defense minister of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan told the aforementioned to journalists at the 11th Congress of Heritage Party held on Sunday, referring to the criminal case launched against Samvel Babayan.

“We follow the case. I am of the same opinion: I greatly respect Samvel Babayan and all my old military friends, who participated in the formation of Armenia and Artsakh, and during the military actions. I equally respect our soldiers, who have been standing in trenches from the beginning of the [Karabakh] movement up to now. The thing is that we communicated with Samvel Babayan by means of his attorney. It would be fine if more information was provided regarding the case, since we don’t possess it, and what is available seems not to be trustworthy,” Ohanyan stressed.

Samvel Babayan was detained on March 20 and as part of the criminal case launched into the smuggling of Igla missile system.

The charge of smuggling military equipment was later mitigated. But, subsequently, a new charge was brought against him: money laundering. Now, he is charged with two indictments.
