Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia-related top news as of 23.12.2019:

·       Narek Sargsyan, the nephew of third Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, was extradited from the Czech Republic to Armenia on December 21, accompanied by police officers.

The criminal case against Narek Sargsyan was initiated on June 26 and he was declared wanted on July 6. He was charged with obtaining, keeping, transporting and trading illegal weapons, armaments, explosive devices, as well as carrying out illegal movement and trade of narcotics. Acting police chief Arman Sargsyan told reporters that he is currently in penitentiary.

Ex-judge Samvel Uzunyan has left Armenia and has been declared wanted, Prosecutor General Office’s spokesperson Arevik Khachatryan told Armenian News - NEWS.am.

According to her, on December 20 Uzunyan was included as an accused in an ongoing criminal case, and the respective decision was sent to the SIS to bring charges against him. Arrest was chosen as his pretrial measure.

·       Davit Khazhakyan, head of the opposition Luys faction at the Yerevan Council of Elders, has been summoned to the police.

According to his FB post, four weeks ago, he submitted a report on crime.

“A week ago, I did the same in writing, sending it to the prosecutor's office,” he said. “Today I was summoned to the police to give an explanation, which it turned out that even my written report had not been transmitted to them.”

·       A joint session of the security councils of Armenia and Artsakh was held in Yerevan Monday co-chaired by Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan and Artsakh President Bako Sahakyan.

Armenian president Armen Sarkissian, Armenian and Artsakh parliament’s speakers Ararat Mirzoyan and Ashot Ghoulyan were present.

"The cooperation and dialogue between Armenian and Artsakh state bodies is of a coordinated nature,” Armenian PM said. “Armenia will continue to act as a guarantor of Artsakh's comprehensive security.”

·       The director of the Armenian maternity hospital Razmik Abrahamyan, who is accused within the case of illegally adopting Armenian children by foreigners, will remain free. The court rejected the request for his arrest.

Abrahamyan was charged over the case of illegal separation of children from parents or substitution of a child and receiving a commercial bribe.

·       Secretary General of the Football Federation of (FFA) Armen Melikbekyan has been elected the president of FFA.

Melikbekyan received 13 votes, while Tovmas Grigoryan, his sole opponent and president of Lori FC, got seven votes.

FFA also suspended Monday membership of nine NGOs.

·       Armenian PM has revealed some details on New Year celebration.

According to him, on December 31, the year-end will start with a festive concert of classical music at the National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater.

“This is an unprecedented phenomenon in our scene. Don't miss it,” the PM added.

By the way, PM Nikol Pashinyan, his spouse Anna Hakobyan and two daughters toured in the Christmas market in downtown Yerevan. They were accompanied by Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, ministers and acting police chief.

The PM also attended the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at Republic Square.
