YEREVAN. – There are 20 shops in Yerevan. What are we going to do? The supermarkets and public food establishments want meat with the 5th form [attesting to given farm animals’ being slaughtered in slaughterhouses]. Villagers protesting in front of the Armenian government today and against compulsory slaughterhouse slaughter of farm animals told this to reporters.

According to them, despite the fact that the government gave until July for passing to mandatory slaughterhouse slaughter of farm animals, they have faced problems.

"It doesn't benefit all the small-livestock keepers, not big farmers; the costs are huge,” they said. "We urge the people, if they are not ready to work under these conditions, let them come together, we will submit our demand to the government."

According to them, although the 5th form is not compulsory in small shops yet, they already have a problem selling their meat. In their words, they have calculated and realized that they are losing money as a result.

They also complained about the decision to build slaughterhouses away from residential buildings. "An amount of $100,000 is needed to make such an expense," they said, in particular.

Villagers called on all cattle farmers of Armenia to gather in front of the government building tomorrow morning to raise their voices of protest.
