Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has made a statement regarding the events in Zhambyl region, Tengrinews.kz reports.
The statement said, in particular, clashes and group brawl took place between local residents last night in the Kordaysk district, and provocateurs tried to take advantage of the situation.
The situation is now overseen by the police and the National Guard. Tokayev instructed law enforcement to take action to eliminate the consequences of the incident.
Earlier, Interior Minister Erlan Turgumbayev said that about 70 aggressive residents had gathered near Masanchi village, where a group brawl broke out.
"Several dozen people received gunshot wounds and injuries," the minister added. "Unfortunately, eight people were killed."
