In 1992, 36 thousand boys were born in Armenia, and already in 2001—17 thousand boys; that is, 52 percent less boys were born in Armenia during the last ten years. Hayk Sargsyan, an MP of the ruling majority Civil Contract Faction in the National Assembly of Armenia, stated this during a press conference Tuesday.

"Also, I want to say that 17 thousand boys were born in 2001, and 19 thousand—in 2019. And as of 2022, 2,000 more boys were born than in 2001. That is, this catastrophic situation has not been maintained; we even have a growth trend. If the [Armenian] government works well, our citizens do not leave the country, have many children, it will be possible to restore the situation, and after ten years to have 36 thousand boys again every year," Sargsyan added.

As reported earlier, Hayk Sargsyan has tabled a draft law that will enable male Armenian citizens who have reached the age of 27 and have not completed mandatory military service to pay 15 million drams to the Armenian state budget and be freed from criminal liability. The bill stipulates as well paying 2.5 million drams and serving for one year, or paying 5 million drams and serving for 6 months, or paying 10 million drams and serving for just one month in the Armenian army.
