YEREVAN. – Yerevan city hall is the responsible body for the illegal kiosks in the Mashtots Park in downtown Yerevan and the civil authority should obey to the Yerevan community, the statement by the environmental activists reads.

“In connection to the President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan’s visit to the Park and his orders to dismantle the kiosks, the activists claim that the dismantling of the illegal kiosks from the Park is exclusively within the authority of the city hall and the law enforcement agents, according to the Constitution. Sargsyan did not refer to the protection of the citizens’ rights and people’s interests, which, as a matter of fact, serve for the bases of sovereignty of Armenia and are the source of legitimacy for state officials (including the president and the mayor). Hence, we demand the city hall to immediately cancel all the decisions on illegal constructions in the Park by dismantling the kiosks, return it to society and resume renovations,” the statement reads.
