At least seven people have died in Ecuador due to a landslide caused by floodwaters in Tungurahua province, which is located in the central part of the country, the local emergency department has informed, Ecuavisa television reports.

Also, 17 people are considered missing, and 10 others were hospitalized.

Rescuers continue cleaning the area.

On June 16, floodwaters flooded El Placer village, which is located next to the popular tourist town of Banos.

The torrential rains and floods that caused mudslides have caused damage in 10 of the 24 provinces of Ecuador, according to the authorities.
