YEREVAN.- The visit of Turkey’s military leadership to Baku is conditioned by Iranian rather than Armenian factor, Armenian political analyst Sergey Minasyan said.

“The visit of Turkish top military officials to Baku is more connected with the tension in Azerbaijani-Iranian relationship. I think it was unpleasant for Azerbaijani officials that this visit as well as arrival of Hillary Clinton coincided with serious losses in the Armenian and Karabakh zone due to response of the Armenian forces,” said Minasyan, head of political studies at the Caucasus Institute.

As to supplies of Israeli drones to Azerbaijan, the part of purchased unmanned aerial vehicles have long-range, well above the airspace of Armenia, and another part is intended for naval operations.

“It is clear that neither the one nor the other can be directed against Armenia,” the expert added.

With regard to the Karabakh conflict, the NATO membership may become restraining force for Turkey.

“This imposes certain limitations, even in the supply of weapons, not to mention the direct military action,” said Minasyan.
