YEREVAN. – Mher Yenotyan, sentenced to life imprisonment, addressed a letter to high ranking officials, declaring that he will reject food and water from June 11. He claims that he has spent 16 years in jails and had not stopped to struggle for justice and feel himself apart from society. It is the first time when due to newly revealed circumstances the criminal case of a person, sentenced to death shot and later changed to life imprisonment, is re-opened. The fact is indeed an indicator whether there is a will to make court-legal field reforms more evident. The Court of Appeals hears the case and the prisoner believes that it is high time to take extreme steps. He also asks not to take the statement of rejecting food and water as pressure on the court. The newly revealed circumstances are the last hope for the prisoner, who was sentenced to life imprisonment 16 years ago based on one person’s testimonies, he alleges.
