NATO stands for relaxation of escalation over the Karabakh conflict, Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia James Appathurai said in Tbilisi.

The Alliance is attentively following the events and is concerned over escalation of situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, he said.

Appathurai said NATO is not participating in the peace process and voiced support for the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group, Gruziya Online reports.

“We are for de-escalation of the situation as it leads to tension in the region,” he said adding that the Alliance supports peaceful resolution of the disputes with meeting demands of the sides.
