YEREVAN. – There is not enough money in the state budget of Armenia to fully pay the salary debts owed to the employees of the Nairit plant.

Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan stated the aforesaid at Saturday’s meeting, in the Government Building, with a group of employees from the abovementioned chemical rubber plant of capital city Yerevan.

And reflecting on the ongoing massive job-cuts at Nairit, the PM said that the government does not want people to be unemployed, and that is why they have invited World Bank specialists, who will make conclusions on how they see the future of this plant.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Yervand Zakharyan, who is also attending the meeting, noted that the Nairit workers will get a one month’s salary by no later than December 15, and another one-month wage by the end of the year.

Hundreds of other Nairit employees are outside the Government Building, and they are waiting for the outcome of this meeting. They say that they are determined.

The overdue 18-month salaries of the employees of Nairit—which is currently inactive—total Armenian drams equivalent to approximately $15 million. These workers have assembled outside the Government Building for days demanding a solution to their problems.
