YEREVAN. - Armenian Police broke up the sit-in in Yerevan’s Baghramyan Avenue at dawn today. The military operation started at 05:25am local time (4:25 Moscow time) after repeated warnings on the unlawful nature of the event (PHOTOS).

Before applying the water canon, high-ranking police officers repeatedly urged hundreds of young activists of the ‘No to Plunder’ Facebook movement to return to Liberty Square and continue their protest action there, without hindering the operation of the city transport.

Small part of the protesters struggling against electricity rate hike agreed to the demands of the police, but most of them went on resisting. As a result of a 15-minute-long crackdown, many of the protestors have been arrested and taken to police stations, Armenian News – NEWS.am correspondent reports.
