YEREVAN. – Armenia should realize that it is not alone, and we are together, in genocide recognition.

Secretary-General of the International Organisation of La Francophonie (OIF), Michaëlle Jean, stated the above-said at her talk Monday with Galust Sahakyan, President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia.

Sahakyan, for his part, underscored capital city Yerevan’s hosting of the 31st meeting of the OIF Ministerial Conference, and which, in his view, attests to the importance of institutional relations that connect Armenia to La Francophonie, the NA press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

At the talk, the Armenian parliament speaker highlighted the OIF’s full support to the ongoing efforts by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, and to achieve a peaceful settlement to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Galust Sahakyan also thanked Jean for making a special statement regarding the Armenian Genocide Centennial.

The OIF chief, for her part, highly praised Armenia’s active participation in this organization.

Michaëlle Jean likewise reflected on the Armenian Genocide issue and said, in particular: “This chapter in Armenia’s history is for the entire world. We need to do everything together so that people remember, recognize and fight so that such a thing would never happen again.”
