The Armenian Surp Asdvadzadzin (Holy Mother of God) Church, which was built in the 1800s in Erzincan (Yerznka, in Armenian), Turkey, has turned into ruins because of treasure hunters.

The church, which was left to its fate for many years, has become the “visiting area” of treasure hunters in recent days, according to Agos Armenian bilingual weekly of Istanbul.

But no investigation has been launched in connection with these “actions” by the treasure hunters.

The church was also on the agenda five years ago, when its icons were stolen.

It is noted that the Erzincan Provincial Hall was to restore the church. After the change of provincial governor, however, no respective steps have been taken.

A study had revealed that there is a collapse on the second floor of the church, but after renovation, the overall church building could have regained its former appearance.
