YEREVAN. – Blue, green, pink, orange and other color newly hatched chicks have appeared in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan, ahead of Easter.

Hovhannes Khachatryan, 27, is the first person in the country to start breeding colored chicks.

He told Armenian News-NEWS.am that there is a considerable interest in Yerevan toward such newly hatched chicks.

“They mainly take them as a present [for Easter], or to make children happy,” Khachatryan said.

These birds are sold for 1,500 drams (approx. US$3.06), each.

In Khachatryan’s words, these chicks are colored before they hatch from eggs, and therefore they safe for the people and the birds themselves.

“They are colored by natural methods, still in the egg, so that the birds’ feathers are not damaged,” he added.

Hovhannes Khachatryan plans to not only increase the color range of these chicks, but to breed colored ducks, too.
