Ilham Aliyev does not rule out Azerbaijan’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

The country’s president told RIA Novosti news agency of Russia that, even though it is impossible to exclude the possibility of Azerbaijan’s accession to the EAEU, the country presently feels confident in its current status.

“[But], of course, if the Union becomes appealing, many will enter it,” added Aliyev. “So, nothing can be ruled out.”

The president also noted that Azerbaijan is closely following the ongoing processes in the Eurasian expanse.

“Today, the format of our economic as well as political cooperation with the EAEU countries [To note, except with Armenia] is quite strong,” added the Azerbaijani president. “[But,] of course, motivation is needed to go on the road of integration; and we are currently working on that.”

Ilham Aliyev stressed that, overall, Azerbaijan is satisfied with its current position.

The Eurasian Economic Union comprises Armenia Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.
