Governor of Ukraine’s Odessa Oblast, Mikheil Saakashvili, who expressed a wish to resign, has responded to the comment of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on his resignation, Georgia Online reports.

“President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko knows very well that I didn’t take direct part in the Georgian elections and could not do that even if I wished, since I am a Ukrainian citizen,” Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page.

He also noted that “he came to Ukraine almost the same time as my institute classmate Petro Poroshenko; he is from Moldova and I’m from Georgia.” “Thus, everyone will have to get used to the fact that I am a Ukrainian politician and will win victories or suffer losses not in Georgia, but Ukraine,” the ex-President of Georgia said.

Saakashvili added that Poroshenko knew very well that he wanted to resign as early as six months ago. “But he persuaded me to stay by promising reforms. But the thing is this time I wasn’t inclined to believe in promises and the Georgian elections have nothing to do with this,” he stated.
