YEREVAN. – Creation of the post of First Vice-Chairman of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), and Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan’s likely appointment to this position, has introduced several clarifications, according to Zhamanak newspaper.

“In so doing, [President of Armenia and RPA Chairman] Serzh Sargsyan, at the same time, calms Karen Karapetyan, at least temporarily, and shows—for a long time—former Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, considered to be the second man in the RPA, his real place.

“With this appointment, the [ruling party’s] first three names in the [forthcoming] NA [i.e. National Assembly] elections are becoming approximately known, according to which Karen Karapetyan will be number two in the Serzh Sargsyan-led list, [and ex-Minister of Education and Science, and RPA Vice-Chairman] Armen Ashotyan, who at this point is among the potential candidates for the NA President, will probably be the third,” wrote Zhamanak.
