American archaeologists have discovered remains of insects frozen in the Antarctic glaciers, which belong to 2 oldest beetles’ species. The scientists of Smithsonian and North Dakota State University discuss it in detail in the journal ZooKeys, reports Informing.

The remains were found near Beardmore iceberg. Archaeologists have discovered, that Antarctotrechus balli lived in Antarctica 14 million years ago.

American specialists stressed, that close relatives of the discovered beetle still live in the coldest continent in the world. The article also states, that the genotype of the insect aligns with the gene of beetles, that inhabit warm areas.
