YEREVAN. – The problems on the border between Armenia and Azerabijan to a large extent are connected with Armenia, not the problem over Karabakh, Ambassador of Kazakhstan in Yerevan Timur Urazayev told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Speaking about effectiveness of CSTO activities, given discontent over CSTO positon repeatedly expressed by the Armenian president, the Ambassador said: “Firstly, the CSTO charter clearly indicates  that the participating countries are providing each other with the necessary assistance to repel foreign aggression by a third state which is not a part of the organization. Part of the border in Tavush region is adjacent to those areas which are under control of Armenia. We initially took a clear and open position - and in Kazakhstan, and in Russia and other countries of the CSTO – assistance in case of external aggression from a third state without regard to the territorial problems is one thing, and quite another when it comes to Nagorno-Karabakh.”

Therefore, he continued, Kazakhstan displays a fair position. “The Nagorno-Karabakh problem is left aside of the problems that are solved in accordance with the Charter of the Collective Security Treaty Organization. We speak out for a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh issue, there is absolutely no military solution there,” he added.
