YEREVAN. - The Defense Ministry of Armenia is taking steps towards implementing the cyber army program.

Expert in information security and famous blogger Samvel Martirosyan said the aforementioned at a press-conference Monday.

To the question of Armenian News – NEWS.am as to whether it is planned to officially create a cyber army, he noted that there are preconditions for this. Several recruits have been involved in the sphere of information technologies but this direction has started developing in Armenia only recently, he noted.

Meanwhile, in US and a number of European countries the importance of cyber security has long been at the same level with the defense of land, water and airspace, special anti-hacking subunits operating there. Azerbaijan and Georgia have also formed analogous anti-hacking teams.

In contrast, in Armenia there are a number of enthusiasts, who gather and try to repel the attacks of plotters, Martirosyan noted. In his words, it would definitely be useful for Armenia to bring this to an official level, since this eventually concerns the confidentiality of information of state institutions and personal data of Armenian citizens. However, everything requires time and although the culture of information security is weakly developed in Armenia, the country moves in the correct direction, he stressed.
