YEREVAN. – If Russia manages to acquire a Turkey that is comprehensible and predictable, this will be in Armenia’s interests.

Defense Minister of Armenia Vigen Sargsyan stated the aforesaid speaking at a session, entitled “Time of Change: World in the Era of Global Unpredictability,” in capital city Yerevan.

Sargsyan noted that the historical recollection of Armenians includes a profound affront from the arrangements that were made at the turn of the 20th century, and under which the historical lands of Armenia were given to Turkey.

“But I’m confident that history has no ‘ifs,’” noted the minister, and added that we need to be guided by realities.

In his words, the agreement on the establishment of a joint military unit from the armed forces of Armenia and Russia, and the presence of the 102nd Russian Military Base in Gyumri, Armenia, is a major response to the chance of Turkey’s involvement in the processes in the South Caucasus.
