German President-elect, former Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier will take office as the next German president on Sunday.

Steinmeier will begin his term in office a day after expiration of the five-year presidential term of Joachim Gauck, DW reported.

Outgoing and incoming German presidents met at a symbolic transfer of power at the presidential residence of Bellevue Palace in Berlin.
