YEREVAN. – In return for free entry to the markets of the European Union, Armenia must provide standards for human rights and labor rights, head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Switalski told reporters.

According to him, a very important mission from Brussels arrived in Yerevan to monitor the progress of Armenia in connection with the GSP + regime which Armenia had joined more than three years ago.

Implementation of the Convention on Human Rights and Labor Rights in Armenia is a part of the deal between Armenia and the European Union, he explained.

“We believe that this is a ‘win-win’ situation,” Switalski emphasized.

This regime, he continued, contributes to the deepening of reforms in Armenia, and this is an investigation mission.

“The deal is quite clear: in return for free access to the markets of the European Union, each country must provide standards for human rights and labor rights. Let me remind you that more than 6,000 Armenian goods are freely entering the European market. And, of course, in the case of a positive assessment, it is still possible to make the GSP + regime more effective for Armenia and Armenian exporters, in particular,” he added.
