YEREVAN. – Not all the member countries of the Eurasian Economic Union have a pro-Armenian attitude on the Karabakh issue, but the Eurasian Economic Union was created by Russia, and not by these countries. This was stated at the parliamentary hearings by deputy chairman of ruling party Armen Ashotyan.

The lawmakers are debating the draft of the statement of the National Assembly “On the start of the process of denunciation of the Republic of Armenia from the Treaty on the Eurasian Economic Union” that was presented by Yelk opposition group.

According to Ashotyan, who is also heading parliament’s standing committee on foreign affairs, Russia is one of the co-chairing countries of the OSCE Minsk Group, and Moscow's consistent policy on the Karabakh problem cannot and should not cause anyone any doubt.

“It is worth recalling the recent statements of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made both in Armenia and in Russia," Ashotyan said, adding that Moscow played and plays an extremely important role on this issue, while linking the Karabakh issue to the topic of withdrawal from the Eurasian Economic Union is not correct.

Yelk opposition block calls the pro-Azerbaijani position of Belarus one of the reasons why Armenia should leave the Eurasian Economic Union.
