President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan on Friday received Toivo Klaar, European Union (EU) Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the Crisis in Georgia.

First, the President recorded the considerable progress in Armenia-EU relations, and stressed that 2017 and the beginning of 2018 was a period of important achievements in terms of these relations.

Also, Sargsyan noted that Armenia is determined to continue the development of relations and to implement the EU-Armenia Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement as soon as possible, and said Armenia will ratify this agreement probably by the end of April.

EU Special Representative Klaar, for his part, shared the view with the President that Armenia-EU relations are developing well.

He noted that although the ratification process of the aforementioned agreement requires some time in several European countries, this does not obstruct Armenia and the EU from moving forward toward a temporary application of this agreement and expanding their relations on a daily basis.

Also, the EU special representative stressed that Armenia is a good example of how a Eurasian Economic Union member country can at the same time have good relations with the EU.

At the ensuing talk, President Sargsyan and the EU special representative exchanged views on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) peace process. In this connection, Toivo Klaar reaffirmed the EU’s support to the activities of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs and their recommendations toward achieving a pacific resolution to the Karabakh conflict.
