YEREVAN. – Representatives from all factions are included in the National Assembly (NA) Investigative Committee that was formed to examine the level of human rights protection in Armenia, with respect to the facts of obstructing the administration of justice, and violating the right to a fair trial and the confidentiality of telephonic conversations.

Chairman of the NA Investigative Committee, MP and ex-Prosecutor General Gevorg Kostanyan, stated the abovementioned at Wednesday’s first meeting of this committee.

This committee was set up several days ago, and after a wiretapped recording of a telephonic conversation between National Security Service Director Artur Vanetsyan and Special Investigation Service Head Sasun Khachatryan was posted on the internet.

In the conversation, they were discussing some particulars of the criminal cases that have been launched into the events that had occurred in capital city Yerevan in March 2008.

On March 1 and 2, 2008, the then authorities used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the recent presidential election. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. But no one had been brought to account for these deaths, to this day.
