YEREVAN. – President of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Ara Babloyan, has issued a statement with respect to stripping former ruling Republican Party of Armenia NA Faction member, ex-Minister of Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan from his parliamentary immunity.

“Taking into consideration of Part1 of Article 108 of Constitutional Law of the Republic of Armenia the NA Rules of Procedure, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia Artur Davtyan presented applications to the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia for taking criminal action against the deputy of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, as well as on giving consent for applying the detention as preventive punishment,” the statement by Babloyan reads.

As reported earlier, the Prosecutor General’s Office informed that Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan has submitted a petition to the NA—in the person of the NA speaker—to give its consent for launching a criminal prosecution against NA deputy Aram Harutyunyan, and for remanding him in custody.

Harutyunyan is accused of taking a large bribe ($14 million).
