Young and talented general should be appointed CSTO Secretary General, but not officials reaching retirement age, Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko told Russian reporters in Minsk.

According to Lukashenko, he suggested appointing a young, experienced general- the state secretary of the Belarus’ Security Council Stanislav Zas.

He noted that his candidate visited all CSTO member states, including Armenia.

“Maybe it will be better to appoint him than an Armenian national. Why are you afraid of Belarusians?” Lukashenko added.

According to Lukashenko, when Pashinyan called him, he asked Armenian acting PM why Khachaturov was arrested for political reasons.

“I told him that I do not support when people are arrested for political reasons,” Lukashenko said.

Speaking about closed-door debates during the Eurasian Union summit in Saint Petersburg, Lukashenko said the presidents of Russia and Kazakhstan asked Pashinyan one question:  why did not he call and ask for advice before making important decisions?

“It was Pashinyan who created a problem, not us,” he added.
