The Russian soldier who is charged with beating a woman to death in Gyumri is still kept in the 102nd Russian Military Base in the city, his legal defender Narine Rshtuni told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

But the attorney did not reflect on the charge brought against her client, saying that she did not have her client’s respective consent.

The said Russian serviceman was detained by Armenian law-enforcement agencies, remanded in custody by a court decision, but handed over to the supervision of the Russian military base.

On December 2, a Gyumri woman—who was born in 1961—was ambulanced from a street to a Gyumri hospital where, however, she died. The woman was a cleaner who was working for the Gyumri city hall.

According to preliminary information, the woman was brutally beaten while going to work.

The Shirak Province investigation department opened a criminal case into this incident, and on charges of negligently causing death.
