France has recalled its ambassador from Rome and called baseless the Italian politicians’ attacks in past months, Reuters reported.

The foreign ministry of France said Italy’s attacks were without precedent since World War Two.

“Having disagreements is one thing, but manipulating the relationship for electoral aims is another,” the statement says.
