The events that took place on 1 March 2008 are a pain for all of us. This is what leader of Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Gagik Tsarukyan told journalists near the statue of Myasnikyan on 1 March.

“We are all sorry that the people’s revolution and their dissent led to such a misery. Today everyone commemorates and comes to express condolences so that nothing like this ever happens again,” he said.

When asked if he was content with the legal procedures for revelation of the events of 1 March, Tsarukyan said that the case would be revealed soon and that only law-enforcement authorities can present the case and make it clear to the public.

The political party leader expressed indignation when a journalist asked him about being interrogated as a witness. Tsarukyan said he had explained several times that he had nothing to do with the events that took place on 1 March and that nobody can find anything on him.

Journalists reminded Tsarukyan that the PAP was part of the governmental coalition in 2008 and asked if the political party felt responsible for the events that took place on that day, to which Tsarukyan replied that the political party hadn’t done anything that would make it feel responsible.

Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan had announced that the 11th year following the events of 1 March would be marked with a powerful civil march from Freedom Square to the statue of Myasnikyan and invited everyone to Freedom Square at 18:30.

The PAP participated in the events commemorating the events of 1 March with its own march.
