Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union should only be observed within the context of Russia-Armenia relations. This is what President of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan said during a March 7 press conference.

According to him, Yerevan has no alternative to relations with Russia. “If Armenia manages to enhance those relations more or less, the other issues, particularly the election of the Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, shouldn’t worry us because Yerevan is Russia’s only ally within the CSTO,” Navasardyan stated.

Navasardyan emphasized the fact that top Russian officials have already come to grips with the idea that Vladimir Putin will stay in power even after 2024 and that, as it is known, changes in Russia will inevitably have an impact on the relations with Armenia. “This is due to the fact that development of events that can lead to change of power seems unlikely for the time being. However, the President’s rating is going down along with deterioration of the social-economic situation in the country. Changes in Russia will inevitably impact relations with Armenia, but Armenia should react calmly to those changes,” the expert added.
