YEREVAN. – NATO has taken note of Armenia’s decision on carrying out a humanitarian mission in Syria.

James Appathurai, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia, on Tuesday said the abovementioned at a conference in Armenia’s capital city of Yerevan.

Appathurai recalled that NATO does not take part in the operations in Syria.

The NATO official informed that, nonetheless, he discussed this matter during his meetings Monday with the Armenian leadership.

He said the Armenian officials explained to him why this being done, and presented political and humanitarian principles.

James Appathurai added that, upon his return, he will present the viewpoint of the Armenian authorities, and make sure this viewpoint is presented to all NATO allies.
