YEREVAN. – The existence of an independent judicial system is of crucial importance in terms of institutionally strengthening the changes that occurred in Armenia. 

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated the aforesaid at Wednesday’s event devoted to the one-year anniversary of the Supreme Judicial Council of the country.

“Having a truly independent judicial system is an absolute priority for the [new] political power that is established in Armenia,” Pashinyan said, in particular.

Also, he underscored that the judicial system in Armenia shall be able to make use of this opportunity.

“For that, it’s necessary that there be judges who are ready assume that responsibility, ready to act within lawfulness, within the law,” the PM added. “[But] for that, we need the second condition that corruption be completely eliminated from the judicial power. (…) no corrupt official in the Republic of Armenia shall sleep peacefully at night. (…) he shall know that justice—conditionally speaking, the people—will definitely come after him.

“We [Armenia] have a historic chance to have an independent judicial system in the Republic of Armenia; today we don’t have any obstacles before it.

“I’m confident that this chance will be used.

“I believe that this potential exists in the judicial system that exists today [in Armenia].”
