YEREVAN. – The Government of Armenia on Thursday decided to postpone for a week the draft decision on providing an additional 30 staff to the penitentiary service.

Justice Minister Artak Zeynalyan presented the matter at the Cabinet meeting, and noted that these individuals will be engaged in civilian hospital services.

But Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan asked that if there are several hundred vacancies in the penitentiary service, why 30 of these staffs were not relocated to a service where it is needed, but rather 30 additional staffs were added.

“I don’t understand the logic,” Pashinyan added, in particular.

Furthermore, he noted that adding staffs is illogical also from the viewpoint that the number of inmates in Armenia’s penitentiaries has reduced considerably in recent times.

Zeynalyan, in turn, suggested postponing the matter for a week so that they can present more substantial arguments.
