YEREVAN. – The Communist Party of Armenia (CPA) strongly condemns the West’s another brazen and cynical interference in the internal affairs of Armenia. The CPA noted this in a statement with respect to the controversial article which BBC News Russian has run in connection with the criminal case into the tragic events that occurred in capital city Yerevan, in March 2008.

“We are concerned in the sense that the participant in the provocation aimed at driving a wedge between the two segments of the Armenian people—Armenia and Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)]—is the state-run agency of the country that has broad business interests in Azerbaijan,” the statement also reads, in particular. “All this is being done amid growing tension over Karabakh. Another provocation follows the unilateral concessions being imposed on Armenia by the US (...) in the Karabakh issue.

“We call on [Armenia’s] authorities to (...) condemn the provocative actions of the British state-run BBC news agency.”

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown capital city Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes.
