YEREVAN. – The session of the Constitutional Court (CC) scheduled for Thursday, and on the examination of the petitions by second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, will not be held on that day.

Armenian News-NEWS.am has learned from the CC that the latter on Wednesday rescheduled the start of the hearing of this case—and on the basis of a need for further examination.

The session has been set for September 3.

The Constitutional Court is to consider—by a written procedure—the petitions by second President Robert Kocharyan, the key defendant in the criminal case into the tragic events that occurred in capital city Yerevan, in March 2008.

Kocharyan has asked the high court to consider the constitutionality of the two articles of the Criminal Procedure Code, and with respect to the grounds for applying pretrial measure, and the circumstances that rule out the proceedings of the criminal case or the criminal prosecution.

Second President Robert Kocharyan is charged with overthrowing the constitutional order in Armenia in connection with the aforesaid tragic events, and taking a particularly large bribe.

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes.
