Armenia parliament speaker Ararat Mirzoyan warns deputy finance minister Arman Poghosyan to be careful with conventions as during the Armenian parliament session on Monday the ratification on conventions on avoiding double taxation of income and property and prevention of tax evasion between the Republic of Armenia and the Kingdom of Denmark have been discussed.

Mirzoyan said this immediately after he announced the name of the keynote speaker, who headed towards the rostrum. The head of parliament, apparently, hinted at the notorious Istanbul Convention, which caused an extremely mixed reaction in the Armenian society.

However, the convention presented by Poghosyan to the parliament has nothing to do with the Istanbul Convention. “

This convention has two objectives. The first is to eliminate double taxation of income and property, and thereby reduce the negative impact of barriers on taxes on income and property, as well as on trade and investment between the contracting states, which allows them to encourage entrepreneurship by creating favorable competitive conditions for foreign investment ” the deputy finance minister noted.

According to him, the second goal is the creation of a predictable and stable tax field since it takes precedence over national legislation and can be amended to a much lesser extent than national legislation.
