In my speech, I thoroughly touched upon the reasons why I deem it necessary for the National Assembly to state its decision on the Constitutional Court and all that is happening in the Constitutional Court. This is what Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan told journalists at the presidential residence today.

When asked why the National Assembly decided to initiate a process to terminate the powers of the President of the Constitutional Court now, Mirzoyan said he hadn’t considered a need for this when he was Deputy Prime Minister a year ago, but now he sees grounds for this.

Journalists asked if the majority of the members and judges of the Constitutional Court will eventually defend the National Assembly, to which Mirzoyan said he deemed it necessary to talk about this and, apparently, the My Step faction of the parliament, as the majority faction, deemed it necessary to submit the draft decision.

When asked what the future steps will be, if Hrayr Tovmasyan continues to serve as President of the Constitutional Court after the vote, Ararat Mirzoyan said the following: “Let’s wait and see if the National Assembly accepts this decision or not and if the decision is forwarded to the Constitutional Court or not and what the position of the Court will be.”
