Egypt has sentenced seven people to death after they were charged with the attacks that took the lives of 11 police officers in 2016.

The Criminal Court of Cairo has also sentenced 18 people to 10-15 years in prison under the same charge.

The charges are linked to the several attacks in Cairo, including the murders of 8 police officers in a microbus in Heluana. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attack on the police officers.

In response to the attacks, the Egyptian authorities have granted wide powers to courts and police officers.
