YEREVAN. – Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan held a consultation today on the draft National Security Strategy for Armenia.

Before launching the discussion, the Prime Minister made an opening speech in which he touched upon the results of the country's development in the 1.5 years after the revolution and made a number of points.

"We need to spend more time on strategies and strategic work in the near future," he said, in particular. “According to the data of the first 9 months, 7.5% economic growth was registered in the Republic of Armenia. (...) which means that we have fulfilled our task at this stage of the economic revolution.

In the last 1.5 years, we have been able to solve the most pressing issues of our foreign policy.

We have succeeded, and that is now a reality, to ensure democratic stability in the Republic of Armenia.

The constitutional transformation from the semi-presidential system of government to the parliamentary system of government is now an established reality.

The 1.5-year processes (...) have shown the competitiveness of our strategic ideas, or their relevance to the national and state interests of the Republic of Armenia."

Referring to the necessity of Armenia's further development strategy, Nikol Pashinyan noted: "The logic of the activity of the state and local self-government bodies should have been fully built on that strategic logic.

Therefore, at this stage we must summarize our strategic perceptions.

Consequently, we have two tasks: to formulate our strategic perceptions, and at the same time to incorporate and create tools for reviewing and refining those strategies that will help us keep those strategic perceptions in touch with reality.

Today we start with the National Security Strategy, which is one of the key strategies."

Armenia’s National Security Strategy and sectoral strategies stemming from it were discussed during the consultation.

The Prime Minister stressed the importance of coordinated work between the ministries and the state bodies concerned, and instructed to keep the strategy development process in the spotlight and to present a strategy ranking scheme.
