YEREVAN. – The government of Armenia today decided to approve the draft decision to declare 2019 mandatory military conscription and discharge for the reserve officers’ personnel.

The draft decision was presented by Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan. He noted that it is proposed to declare, from December 20, 2019 to January 20, 2020, mandatory military conscription for male medical specialists of up to 35 years old who are registered in the Armenian Armed Forces reserve officers’ personnel, and for a term of two years. He added that up to 74 such physicians are expected to be drafted. Also, it has been decided to discharge, by December 31, 2019, the servicemen who have undergone the mandatory military service of the reserve officers within the timeframe specified by the law on military service and the status of a serviceman.

"Conscription is done in two directions," Tonoyan added. "First, the hospital ring is complemented where there is a demand for specialists, and the military ring is the doctors in the military units."
