If Armenia and Azerbaijan reach an agreement on the exchange of prisoners, then Russia will support them, said Russian Foreign Ministry spokersperson Maria Zakharova.

She noted that the exchange of prisoners is constantly on the agenda of talks.

"The meeting of Azerbaijani and Armenian FMs in Moscow in April this year was devoted to this topic. During this meeting, the parties agreed on a reciprocal basis to take measures to allow relatives to be detained on the territory of the parties," she said. "We welcome this extremely important action and see it as a first step in facilitating the plight of those in custody. I can say that work is underway on other prisoners. If an agreement is reached, then we will support it."
