First Ombudsman of Armenia Larisa Alaverdyan says the statements by an ex-officer of the National Security Service addressed to third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan are a “coarse step”.

Some “former army general” by the name of Tigran Barseghyan made a statement that third President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan was ready to take radical steps that were against the interests of Armenia.

“Let’s set the record straight. Did he hand over lands? We have to understand once and for all that both the second and third Presidents of Armenia did everything they could to maintain the status-quo. As for the rest, they were certain that Azerbaijan wasn’t going to agree to anything they said. I personally was against such a policy. We need to understand that whatever they said were simply words, and Azerbaijan understood this very well,” Alaverdyan stated.

Talking about the army general’s actions, Alaverdyan noted that this is not part of professional ethics and was a coarse step. “You know that officers of the National Security Service are never “former” officers. Who believes that Serzh Sargsyan was ready to hand over Karabakh? I believe there is a need for weightier arguments than just statements. What is bothering the authorities from revealing all the crimes committed by the second and third Presidents in regard to the Karabakh issue?” Larisa Alaverdyan said.
