During a discussion on the bill on making amendments and supplements to the Law “On pardon” held as part of the session of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of Armenia today, Deputy Minister of Justice Srbuhi Galyan said the development of this will is due to the need to make the institution of pardon more transparent and accountable and ensure protection of the victims’ interests.

The deputy minister said the bill will provide the opportunity to solve several problems in the practice of amnesty and improve the legislative provisions, rule out ineffective application of legislative norms, eliminate the problems with the legislation and ensure protection of the rights of persons under a certain category.

In particular, the person who was sentenced to imprisonment for a certain period and is serving punishment in the form of imprisonment may be pardoned, if he or she has actually served half of the prescribed punishment.
