Turkish security forces conducted an operation in 16 provinces of the country, detaining 24 suspects of involvement in an attempted coup in July 2016, RIA Novosti reported referring to IHA.

A total of 14 officers, who are on active duty, are among the detainees. Balikesir prosecutor’s office charged them with creating a communications system to organize an opposition preacher Fethullah Gulen, who was banned in Turkey.

Turkish authorities accuse Gulen’s organization, which they call FETO, of having been involved in a coup d'etat in July 2016. After the rebellion in Turkey, over 80 thousand people were arrested, more than 160 thousand civil servants, including military personnel, were dismissed or suspended from work. Gulen, who is in the US, condemned the coup d'etat and rejected the allegations.
